Welcome and Introduction
Prof. Nanni de Micheli (EcoCloud Scientific Director) and Prof. David Atienza (Associate VP of Centers and Platforms) will give some words of welcome, and present the events and the agenda of the day.
Prof. Giovanni de Micheli
Giovanni De Micheli is a research scientist in electronics and computer science. He is credited for the invention of the Network on Chip design automation paradigm and for the creation of algorithms and design tools for Electronic Design Automation (EDA). He is Professor and Director of the Integrated Systems Laboratory at EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland. Previously, he was Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, Director of the Electrical Engineering Institute at EPFL from 2008 to 2019 and program leader of the Swiss Federal Nano-Tera.ch program. Prof. De Micheli is the recipient of the 2025 IEEE Gustav Kirchhoff Award, the 2022 ESDA-IEEE/CEDA Phil Kaufman Award, the 2019 ACM/SIGDA Pioneering Achievement Award, and several other awards
Prof. De Micheli is Scientific Director of the EPFL EcoCloud center.
Prof. David Atienza
David Atienza Alonso is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Head of the Embedded Systems Laboratory (ESL) and Associate Vice President of Research Centers and Platforms at EPFL, Switzerland.
Previously, he was the Scientific and Executive Director of the EPFL EcoCloud from 2021 to 2024. He received his MSc and Ph.D. degrees in computer science and engineering from UCM, Spain, and IMEC, Belgium, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. His research interests include system-level design methodologies for high-performance multi-processor system-on-chip (MPSoC) and low-power Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems, including new 2-D/3-D thermal-aware design for MPSoCs and many-core servers, ultra-low power edge AI architectures for wireless body sensor nodes and smart embedded systems, HW/SW reconfigurable systems, dynamic memory optimizations, and network-on-chip design.
David Atienza is currently Associate Vice President for Centers and Platforms.
