In early July this year, the Board of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology appointed Mathias Payer as Tenure Track Assistant Professor in EPFL’s School of Computer and Communication Sciences. In a later development, Prof. Payer agreed to become a member of EcoCloud and share his expertise in protecting computer systems from malicious attacks.
EcoCloud is at the forefront of innovation in cloud computing technologies, which accentuates the value of collaborations and interactions with experts like Prof. Payer. He brings a strong commitment to research and teaching, which will strengthen EcoCloud’s resolve in meeting and managing the current challenges to IT security.
Mathias Payer completed his D.Sc. from ETH Zurich in 2012 and joined BitBlaze group, UC Berkeley, as Post-doctoral scholar. Before joining EPFL, he was Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Purdue University (2014-18), where he mentored many Ph.D. students. His researches on software security and system security have resulted in several publications, some of whom went on to receive Best Paper awards at academic forums.
In his current position at EPFL’s School of Computer and Communication Sciences, Prof. Payer heads the HexHive group. His interests in software and system security, binary exploitation, sanitization, and fault isolation are in sync with EcoCloud’s objectives of delivering sustainable cloud computing solutions.
EcoCloud welcomes Prof. Payer to its fold and hopes that his skills will add new dimensions to the research center’s established goals.
